Phadebas® Forensic - The press test

"Taking saliva detection out of the dark"

The Phadebas® Forensic Press test is used for detecting and identifying hidden saliva stains.
The test is capable of locating saliva deposits on any item or surface, say for example a piece of clothing or a bed sheet. A major strength is the test's ability to detect stains regardless of the type of fabric or material onto which the saliva was originally deposited. The test is highly selective, the reason being that amylase activity in saliva is typically several orders of magnitude higher than in other body fluids. The methodology isn't new, as this has been implemented by more than 100 forensic labs world wide for many years. However, no commercial products have been available until now.

NEW STUDY

Locating saliva deposits on items using UV sources is well documented to be a difficult task. Recently, Fiedler et al. conducted a study on clothing of different fabric types and of varying colors, and found that they were able to detect saliva on only 60% of the items using a variable UV source.
